Our story

Three companies, one purpose

L8MS brings together CompCo Ltd, Greaves Consultants Ltd and Oculus Consulting Ltd. Between us we have more than 70 years' experience in water hygiene and Legionella control, and more than 20 years spent designing, developing and supporting software for it.

We started with database-driven risk assessment and record-keeping software: electronic logbooks that report by exception instead of filling filing cabinets. Online Legionella training followed, delivered on our own learning platform with our own course material, plus an optional Ofqual-regulated Highfield qualification for learners who need one.

Everything in L8MS is shaped by people who do the job. The templates, recommendations and routines come from real assessments on real sites, and we keep them in step with ACoP L8, HSG274 and the Legionella Control Association service standard.

In 2014 the Health and Safety Executive wrote to thank Alan Greaves and Graham Thompson for their contribution to the review and revision of the Approved Code of Practice (L8) and HSG274 Parts 1–3 — the guidance every UK Legionella control programme is built on.

Alan and Graham have both been elected Fellows of the Water Management Society (FWMSoc), the professional body for people working in water hygiene and water treatment.

The people behind L8MS

A small team, so you deal with the people who build and support the software.

Alan Greaves

Sales & business development

Alan looks after sales, business development and our larger clients. He also tests new BRS releases and AE reporting before they reach customers.

Graham Thompson

Technical director, water hygiene

Graham sets the technical direction for L8MS and provides L8 guidance and consultancy. He handles account setup and software customisation, and owns our quality and security policies.

Software development lead

David develops the L8MS risk assessment software, Building Record System and mobile apps, runs our cloud services and databases, and leads information security.

We only sell software and training

L8MS doesn't supply water treatment or on-site services. That means we never compete with the service providers who use our software, and our advice to site operators isn't tied to selling anything else.
