L8MS uses two 0–4 rating scales on survey questions and photos. This is a reference for what each level means — the same guidance is on the Understanding assessment page inside an assessment.
No scoringL8MS deliberately does not add the ratings up into a single score. Averaging tends to hide individual matters of concern that need addressing. The hazard (Legionella) is always treated as serious — the rating is the assessor’s estimate of likelihood.
LR — Legionella Risk
Used to prioritise actions that improve Legionella control. The assessor weighs contamination, amplification, transmission, exposure and susceptibility.
- 0 — Very Low: minimal risk. No additional action required.
- 1 — Low: slight risk under abnormal operating conditions. Action once more significant risks are dealt with.
- 2 — Possible: possible risk under existing conditions. Action when operationally practicable — often tied to shutdowns or planned maintenance.
- 3 — Present: probable risk under existing conditions. Action as soon as possible — typically a few months at most.
- 4 — High: imminent risk of harm. Immediate action, which may mean taking systems off line.
GR — General Risk
Used to prioritise general safety concerns noted under duty of care — scalding, working at height and similar. The levels map to the same action timescales as LR (0 = none, 4 = immediate).
Recommendation required above 0Any question or photo rated 1 or above must carry a recommendation. The survey list flags any that are missing one.
